known as
I.N.S.B. was founded in 1980 in Piraeus/Greece.
As a technical society and a non–governmental technical organization
the aim of its
establishment is to render impartial technical services
to ship- owners on behalf of several flag Administrations for the
safety of property and life at sea.
I.N.S.B. establishment in Piraeus came as a necessity out of
the conditions created by
the always increasing flagging – out of the
Greek – owned vessels in search of a Registry
offering fiscal and
procedural advantages.
In fact, the new Registries, always willing to ensure the highest
standards on vessels flying
their flags and to keep pace with the new
trends in safety of navigation imposed by I.M.O.,
were in
favour of
the idea of a Technical Society’ strongly linked to the
Administration, based in the
source from which the new entries were
originated, a Technical Society to which they could
entrust the
technical adequacy of their vessels.
On the other hand, shipowners of the new entries, most of them Piraeus
based, felt the need of a technical supporting. In other words, felt
the need
of a society officially representing the flag Administration but
having its
headquarters in Piraeus, thus enabling it to be in a direct contact
and continuous technical cooperation with the port-state Maritime
Inspectorates.
I.N.S.B. was founded to cover this twofold need. In order to
achieve its goals, it should be comprised of staff experienced in
matters of surveys, technical specialists familiar with the
technological developments in shipbuilding, naval architects and
marine engineers with rich experience. I.N.S.B. did exactly this. Its
technical staff in Greece and abroad enjoys the
highest reputation from all members of the shipping community.
So far I.N.S.B. is fully authorized to perform statutory and
certification work on behalf of the following Administrations:
